Day 22: This, Then
Word:
Matthew 6.9 “This, then, is how you should pray…”
Daily Devotional
So far in our 40 Days of Devotion, we have seen that worship and time in the Word are valuable building blocks in a life-giving devotional life. This week we will focus on our third building block: prayer.
The disciples of Jesus grew up in a culture steeped in prayer. Yet, there was something they saw in the prayer life of Jesus that stood out to them, and led them to ask, "Lord, teach us to pray..." In response to this request, Jesus gave them "The Lord's Prayer."
As we let The Lord's Prayer shape our prayer life, we, like the disciples of old, enter Jesus's school of prayer.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Matthew 6.9-13 “This, then, is how you should pray:
‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’”
Worship:
Prayer:
Here are two prayers for today. One is based off the Scriptures for today and one is for those in our city that do not know Jesus. Praying for the lost is one of the ways we prepare for harvest.
Lord, I humble myself to You. Would You teach me to pray, like You taught your disciples of old? I want to learn from You and I want to be a student in Your school of prayer. Thank You for the gift of the Lord’s Prayer. Would You unlock it for me afresh in this season of my life?
Today we are praying 1 Timothy 2.3-4 over those that don’t know Jesus in our city. Feel free to insert specific names of people in the prayer.
Lord, thank You that You desire everyone in our city to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. I join with your desire and am asking for a fresh season of harvest in Waco. I bring ________________ before you today and am asking would you give me an open door to share the good news of Jesus with them.
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do You want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
