Day 11: Mothers & Fathers

Word:

By God’s grace, as we yield to the journey of discipleship, He grows us into mothers and fathers in the Spirit. This stage is marked by a depth of first hand knowledge of the Lord and a history in God. As mothers and fathers, we have spiritual children and grandchildren and we give our lives away and find great joy in seeing our spiritual offspring walk in all the Lord has for them. A spiritual mother or father’s character is marked by the fruits of the Spirit and the stability of maturity.

As you meditate on the Scriptures for today, let the Lord love you and speak to you about His heart for you in this stage of discipleship.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

1 John 2.12-14 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

1 Corinthians 4:15 For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

1 Thessalonians 2:7–8 But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children. So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us.

1 Thessalonians 2.11-12 For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.

Worship:

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You that You want to grow me into a spiritual mother or father - stable in You, with a history of Your faithfulness and a fruitfulness in my character that looks like You! Give me grace to give my life away like You did, Jesus!

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.

Here are some prompts to assist you:

Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

How do You want me to apply this truth today?

Who do I need to share this with today?
