Day 1: Good Foundations
Vision for this Week’s Devotionals:
As a church family, we value Life on Life Discipleship- intentional relationships that are focused on growing as lifelong, obedient followers of Jesus who in turn help others to do the same. Over the coming weeks the devotionals will zoom in on different aspects of life on life discipleship, but as we get started, the focus will be on the theme of following Jesus and being His disciples.
Word:
At the conclusion of His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reminds us that we are all going to build our lives somewhere.
We can build our lives on the shifting sands of our own preferences and opinions and the preferences and opinions of this world, or we can build our lives on the firm and lasting foundation of Jesus and His teaching.
At its simplest, following Jesus and being His disciples is about intentionally building our lives on the indestructible foundation of Jesus Christ.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Matthew 7.24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because He taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
Worship:
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You are a solid rock for me to build and rebuild my life on. I humble myself as Your disciple today and want grace to intentionally put Your Word into practice in my life.
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do You want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
