Day 14: Like Living Stones
Vision for this Week’s Devotionals:
As a church family, we value Life on Life Discipleship - intentional relationships that are focused on growing as lifelong, obedient followers of Jesus who in turn help others to do the same.
Each week during 40 Days of Discipleship, the devotionals will zoom in on different aspects of life on life discipleship. So far we have focused on discipleship as being an obedient follower of Jesus and that discipleship is a lifelong journey. This week we are going to focus on how God uses relationships in discipleship.
Word:
At its heart, discipleship to Jesus is relational. It is about our relationship with Him and our relationships with others. Jesus works through relationships to develop His people. One of the images that Scripture uses to paint this picture is that of living stones being built together into a temple for the Lord.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
1 Peter 2.4-5 As you come to him, the living Stone - rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him - you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4.15-16 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 2.19-21 "You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord."
Worship:
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for the godly relationships You have put in my life, and the way You are at work in our midst to grow us like living stones into a temple for your Spirit!
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do You want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
