Day 3: Surrender
Word:
Discipleship to Jesus is a surrendered life, not a self-directed life. The call to discipleship is one of letting go of our own way and surrendering to our Savior. Like clay in the hands of a potter, we give ourselves to the Lord for Him to mold us and make us into vessels for His glory. The life of surrender to Jesus is the place we find real life.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Matthew 16.24-25 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
John 12.24-26 Truly, truly I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. The one who loves his life loses it, and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life. If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
Matthew 10:38-39: "Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."
Worship:
Prayer:
Jesus, I surrender afresh to You as Your disciple today. Thank You for delivering me from the futility of a self-directed life and leading me into a life that is truly Life!
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do You want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
