Day 9: Little Children
Word:
A beautiful stage of discipleship to Jesus along the pilgrimage of growth is that of being a new disciple, or to use the language of 1 John 2, a little child. In this season we experience the joy of being born again, our sins being forgiven and we come to know God the Father in a real and personal way. This stage is not without challenges of being easily toppled over and so often being led by our fleshly impulses. As we feed on God’s Word, like a nursing baby feeds on milk, we grow and develop through this stage and onward into maturity. As you meditate on the Scriptures for today, let the Lord love you and speak to you about His heart for you in this stage of discipleship.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
John 1.12-13 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
1 John 2.12-14 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name's sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
Ephesians 4.14-15 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
1 Corinthians 3.3 Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ.
1 Peter 2.2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Worship:
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You that You love me and have made me a child of God. Thank you for forgiveness of sin and the love of the Father. Help me to feed on the pure spiritual milk of Your Word, that by it I may grow up into my salvation.
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do You want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
