Day 18: Nurtured in Your Identity

Word:

This week we are looking at how God works through relationships in our discipleship to Jesus. A third way that God works through spiritual mothers and fathers to help us grow as disciples of Jesus is through nurturing our identity in Christ.

Spiritual mothers and fathers speak words into our lives that nurture our identity in Christ. They help us experience security and clarity in the Father’s love and affection for us, and who He is making us to be.

As you read the Scriptures today, let them stir you to reflect on, or perhaps seek to learn more from ways those who have invested or are investing in you have nurtured your identity in Christ.

Scriptures For Today:

As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.

1 Peter 2.9-12 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

1 John 4.4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Titus 2.4 To Titus, my true son in our common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.

Worship:

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for who You have made me and who You are making me to be. Thank you for the blessings of spiritual mothers and fathers to nurture this identity in my life!

Listen & Obey:

Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.

Here are some prompts to assist you:

Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?

How do You want me to apply this truth today?

Who do I need to share this with today?
