Day 20: Rebuke
Word:
This week we are looking at how God works through relationships in our discipleship to Jesus. God works through spiritual mothers and fathers to bring rebuke and correction in the places that we need it. These reproofs have the power to prune away things that need to go from our lives and bring forth our new life in Christ in fresh ways.
Scriptures For Today:
As you read today's Scriptures, read slowly and attentively, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you meditate on His Word.
Proverbs 15.31-33 The ear that listens to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise. Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence. The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
Proverbs 29.17 Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.
Proverbs 29.15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
2 Timothy 4.1-5 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Worship:
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for the way You work through spiritual mothers and fathers to bring correction and reproof where it is needed. Help me to be humble and to have a listening ear to the ways You are wanting to speak to me to help me grow as Your disciple.
Listen & Obey:
Spend two minutes in silent, listening prayer. Write down what you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you.
Here are some prompts to assist you:
Lord, what do You want to speak to me from these passages of Scripture as I start my day?
How do You want me to apply this truth today?
Who do I need to share this with today?
